Where to Have Fun in the Ann Arbor Area this Summer

Looking for fun ways to stay busy this summer?

We’ve got you covered!

There’s no shortage of lively events and unique spots to check out in the Ann Arbor area. If you want to spend some quality time with family, plan an unforgettable date, or if you’re just in the mood for some fantastic grub, this area has it all.

Here are some ways to stay busy and have a blast this summer:

Ann Arbor Art Fair
Located in the heart of Ann Arbor, the annual Art Fair draws in a crowd of close to half a million attendees over the course of three days! It’s the largest juried art fair in the nation, features nearly 1,000 artists and covers 30 city blocks in downtown Ann Arbor.

You’ve got to see it!

There is an endless line of tents showing off original works of art, street performances, delicious street food and a variety of sidewalk sales so you can shop til you drop.

This year, it starts on 07/18/24 and runs through 07/20/24. Admission is free and we highly recommend that you check it out because it is Ann Arbor’s biggest event of the year!

Manchester Chicken Broil
Backtracking to that fantastic grub, this is where you’ll find it! The Manchester Chicken Broil is the epitome of savory summer food.

Every year they broil over 15,000 pounds of chicken, and typically churn out 10,000 chicken dinners in four hours! (Don’t even get us started on the 256 pounds of butter).

Each meal comes with ½ a chicken, a dinner roll with butter, freshly made German coleslaw with their secret local recipe, radishes, chips and your choice of a beverage. Snag this sweet deal for $15 at the gate, or $13 if you purchase it in advance here.

This year for their 71st celebration, they’re offering on-site dining, drive-thru meal pickup, on-site walkup for meal purchases and live music. It takes place on 07/20/24 and proceeds go to a variety of causes in the Manchester area so it’s a great cause to support.

Chelsea Sights and Sounds
Looking for an event that has something for everyone in your family will enjoy? Then you’ll love Chelsea’s Sights and Sounds Festival!

This annual summer event takes place over the weekend of 07/26/24-07/27/24 in downtown historic Chelsea. Here you can enjoy live music, farmers markets, chalk art, kids entertainment, food courts, classic cars, art markets and more! While this main event is annual, they also showcase smaller performances throughout the summer on Thursday nights!

There’s something new to see every year here as well as annual favorites that keep people coming back year after year from all over the state. Click here to read what they’re planning this year.

Bring your whole family and make fun summer memories!

Dexter Summer Festival (AKA: Dexter Daze)
This annual festival has occurred over the past 54 years, and is the celebration of the summer in Dexter! It takes place this August on 08/09/24-08/10/24.

People gather in the charming downtown area and enjoy music on the pavilion, delicious food trucks, children’s entertainment, artist booths and fireworks at night to top it all off.

This year, Dexter’s Chamber of Commerce is taking over hosting the event, and is changing it’s name from Dexter Daze to Dexter Summer Festival so make sure you don’t miss it! Click here for more information.

UM Botanical Gardens
The Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum hold a gorgeous collection of plants and lush landscapes, made up of unique outdoor gardens, three miles of scenic outdoor trails and an indoor multi-climate conservatory housing tropical plants we normally don’t get to experience living in Michigan.

This is a great educational activity kids will love, and it can also be a romantic and photogenic spot for a date night! It’s open every day from sunrise to sunset, and admission is free. Click here to learn more.
